The Walking Dead S06E12 "Not Tomorrow Yet"

Synopsis

"Rick and the group realize the only way to maintain the peace of Alexandria is to fight a new enemy. This time, though, our group might be outmatched."

What I thought?

A disturbing episode for me. With the gang voting (not sure it was really negotiable anyway) to attack Negan's group, we have them arrive at what most be a former satellite centre, trick themselves in and begin silently murdering people in their sleep. Thankfully even Glen had a conscience on this one, and although the group they were attacking are absolutely horrendous individuals themselves by the looks of it, attacking people in this way sends a shiver down my spine. It's also a sure fired way to really rile up Negan, because as things kicked off and the alarm got raised, guns firing everywhere, our gang thought they'd beaten Negan and co, but alas all us viewers knew it was not going to be that easy. Why they even thought about doing this based on so little information about Negan is beyond me. It's common sense to scout and gather intelligence, but they just go in with a plan of keeping quiet as much as possible. Sure enough, they find themselves invisibly cornered at the end by a pleasant sounding lady on the loud speakers who claims to have captured Maggie and Carol. It was a dumb ass plan in the first place by a whole flock of individuals who have begun to believe in Rick far too much me thinks.

Very few actual zombies this week, and fleeting action at the Negan camp, with most it talking and creeping about. If it wasn't so sickening their actions, and stupidity incarnated, this might have been slightly more enjoyable to watch.

What Carol is cooking is nuts! Nut cookies in fact.

Killing zombies is such a drag.

The new "Whack the mole" game was coming along nicely.

Is there life on Mars? Not much left on Earth.

Fan. Sh*t. Hit. Alarm.

Surrounded by a mystery foe.

The Walking Dead S06E11 "Knots Untie"

Synopsis

"After Rick comes to the realization that Alexandria might not be as safe as he thought, decisions must be made about where to go from here."

What I thought?

Well, if last week was an enjoyable comedy, this week it's more of a quiet and curious one, with the self-named "Jesus" taking the gang on a road trip to his base, which is a smaller version of Alexandria and constructed around a delightful periodic large house. Maggie is sent to do the negotiating with the leader of this complex, but finds him somewhat unwilling to trade. Then things really pick up a level as some returnees to the camp have had a run-in with Negan. The lead returnee gives the leader a message from Negan, that of a knife to the stomach! Well, that causes chaos as Rick and gang are fist fighting in a rather complex situation of no one really knowing who each other is. Things probably don't look good when a blooded Rick stabs one of the guys in the neck. Yes, that guy is quite dead. This all leads to another chaotic stand-off, of which "Jesus" helps cool. Minutes later Maggie strikes a deal with the injured and recovering complex leader, in that Rick and Co will take care of Negan in return for half "of everything". Seems that doesn't include people I guess. So, Rick's wagon is loaded up like they just popped out to the local supermarket, with "Jesus" and one other now joining them on the road trip back to Alexandria.

Maggie struck an impressive deal although given we know Negan is a serious bad-ass, even half of everything probably won't feel like enough by the time they've battled him. It's great to see another self-sufficient protected complex and meet more new characters. You just know the doctor at that complex is likely to become a member of the Rick team at some point. "Jesus" continues to be the most interesting new charector in this show since Hershel due to his diplomacy, charisma and undoubtedly interesting back-story as to how he became such a kick-ass Harry Houdini. Rick and Michonne have already started a lovely hand holding,, loving smiles etc couple thing, which leads you to wonder if this spells the end for one of them, or both now become "untouchable" in terms of any possible future demise?

Sadly though this episode strolled along rather than really grabbed my attention.

Rating 6/10 (DECENT)

Aww, cute. They are now doing the hand-holding thing.
So, which one is going to die this season then???
Dead, double dead, and impaled on a car, This zombie's luck was in. Today he's meeting Rick.
The Vikings are making a comeback
"It may not look like much but it's got it where it counts" he didn't say but should have.
Michonne eyes pop out as this guy comes down with a serious hole in the neck
Happy families once more, everyone is swapping holiday postcards as they do off to meet Uncle Negan.

The Walking Dead S06E10 "The Next World"

Synopsis

"A seemingly simple scavenging run proves to be very tricky when our group isn't the only one vying for an unexpected supply goldmine."

What I thought?

After the carnage of last week we're back to a peaceful scene in Alexandria, with people getting on with repairing stuff, and the daily run for goods. Rick & Daryl go driving out for supplies, striking seemingly bingo when they find an already stacked up truck, but come across probably the best new character in donkey ages who goes by the name of a well known messiah. It's almost Dukes of Hazard style comedy as this trickster fools Rick/Daryl and steals the truck of goods. Not wanting to give up on all those toilet rolls, condoms and possibly some pasta in the back of the truck, they go tracking the lorry which is trailing a drink's machine that they were attempting to break into before the interruption. They then proceed to sprint down the road following the markings left behind by that dragging soda machine. Quite how they could continue to run at full pace for so long I don't know. Sure, they stop at some point to grab some drink from the discarded soda machine, but there are still legging it, for what must be a world record pace for the 100m until they come across the trickster changing the tyre of the lorry further down the road.

Minutes later and they have the truck back and leave the guy tied up on the road. Feeling pleased with themselves they find another barn to explore but hear movement on top of the van. That trickster has been catching a ride! Harry Houdini or what?? More dramatic comedy ensues as they all squabble over the lorry. During the battle, in which walkers join, the trickster saves Daryl before eventually is overcome by our Mr Butch and inadvertently knocked out as the lorry ends up in a lake. It's almost comedy and highly amusing stuff, but is this guy for real or one those Wolf people with Negan? After bringing him back to Alexandria for the doctor to look after they lock him away for the night, still unconscious. You just know he'll escape but not for it to happen as it does. With Rick and Michonne "getting it on", Rick is awoken by a voice calling him, which leads to him and his sex machine jumping to attack-mode, fully naked from the night's activities, as the trickster is at the bottom of the bed saying they need to talk. It's a fantastically amusing moment to end an unusually gentle yet entertainingly enjoyable best good's run anyone from this show has ever been on.

Rating 7/10 (GOOD STUFF)

The trickster "bumps" into Rick and Daryl, beginning what was almost a comedy episode.

They might have had zombie exercise, but these guys must be drugged up athletes to sprint for so long after the stolen lorry.

Trickster captured for the first time, but not for long.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Deanna is back! Well, sort of.
Her son has been haunting down her zombie form and finally puts her out of her misery.

The trickster is captured for a second time. You know what comes next though ...
Rick & Michonne get jigging with it.
It's the morning after the night before and all is calm ...
... well hello, it's the trickster!

The Walking Dead S06E09 "No Way Out"

Synopsis

"With walkers inside the gates of Alexandria, Rick and the group are scared, outnumbered, and things are only getting worse."

What I thought?

To me this show has gone on about two seasons too long although I know there's people out there who can't get enough of the characters or zombies. I genuinely believe I've seen it all in this show now, but there were at least two moments that were refreshing this week. Sadly we got more of Rick with his depressive whining whisper-like speech, directing orders like a tyrant, much like the people of Alexandria believed. Sure, you have to be serious to survive in this zombie world, but anyone who isn't hardened to that life outside is going to take one look at Rick and think "twat". In my ideal scenario all the main characters except Daryl would be gone very soon and we might have some real new invigorating stuff once more. However, there is some hope. We did get to see Rick think that Alexandria should be rebuilt and expanded, which will help provide a change from the zombie slashing that usually comes most episodes. And what a lot there was this week ...

Forget the human death toll. Who was counting the zombies this week? Wowsers. We had Rick joined by just about everyone in town to take on the hoard like a pack of wolves themselves. There was some specially crafted scenes of zombies being slashed, trashed, and bashed left, front, centre, back, behind ... whatever. They got it in every way possible. By the end I was as exhausted and drained as the zombies and humans alike in this show. Mind you, I still feel like I've already seen every way possible for a zombie to be slaughtered after only the first few seasons of this show. It's action yes, but it is action we've seen far too much of.

But what about that opening? With the crap really hitting the fan at the start, that rocket launcher moment was straight out the top drawer in shock and wow factor. Now that's how you get the viewer's attention!

Despite the two action moments catching the eye, it's far from all good this week. I know Rick is stressed and slightly mad, but he gave the priest his baby to look after? WTF? You'd sooner trust a zombie with the child than that guy! That just made no logical sense.

Then there was the successive and daft way Rick's girlfriend and children all died in slow-motion in the space of a yard and 30 seconds. It all look heavily implausible and contrived as if to rid us of as many Alexandria inhabitants as possible in less than a minute. Everyone who survived were from the original-ish cast!

If you like zombie killing, you'll love this episode. If you demand some common sense, logic and story telling that means something, you'll be somewhat unimpressed like I was this week. However, it was still an enjoyable ride.

Rating 6/10 (DECENT)

WOWSERS! Now that's a fireball!
I'd sooner give my baby to a zombie than this man. Is Rick madder than a hatter?

One good turn deserves several bullets and death.

After some barbecue sauce the zombies found him even more irresistible.
Burn Baby Burn!

If I had to listen to any more of his speeches I think I'd chose death.

A disappointing end to the season, after being set-up with the "Coming Next Week" segment in previous episode specially crafted to lure us into thinking something might turn up in the final.

Instead, what we had was an aborted dive in 10X and a failed dive in 10X due to a combination of mechanical failure and the object they knew was in the bottom shaft obstructing the diver. I honestly don't know why they haven't tried to clear that obstruction first. Defies belief really.

Away from 10X there's the excitement of a Roman sword found nearby (when it was found though is unknown, nor how no one had heard of this before today). It was't actually found on Oak Island so it's really yet ANOTHER indirect clue to proceedings.

Of course, the show is naturally intriguing and watchable. It's just a shame that some of their decision making doesn't really add up. They really need EXPERTS on the island.

For me, this was the best episode thus far. Combining the fear and concern that's rife in the faces and hearts of the PM and our bodyguard Hans, the case of last week's hit-and-run suspect is tensely dealt with as the Russians take a firm interest in the suspect they claim is a Chechen terrorist. The last few minutes really summarise the political aspects of the show, and the emotions that such issues can induce in people as the prisoner's suicide angers his highly charged son.

The delightful historian Kate Williams didn't get to say much this week sadly. It was left mostly to the team captains to utter the most humour, with the likes of Danny Baker and Robert Webb largely redundant. Regardless, it was the funniest episode since the opener.

Really enjoyed this weeks episode. Think it was because nothing was quite going to plan, and peril was everywhere. The whole tactics of the rebel's commander to go in and "take out" the mandalorian group, was the only aspect of the plot I didn't think sounded right. However, the rest was great. Dogfights in ships. Kanan "going all Anakin", by attacking pilot's ship miles up in the air, as well as Kanan's heart-to-heart with the mandalorian group leader who just didn't buy everything he said. One ends up with a reluctant prisoner, which doesn't quite seem the rebel way.

You can't help but feel from watching this episode, and the last few week's worth, that they are saving up the good stuff for the finale. The sneak-peak at end seems to suggest that too.
Anyhow, this week there's more dives to confirm that there is likely a man-made triangular stone, and maybe another, on the sea bed. A rather padded out segment of the show.
Talk of Christopher Columbus being the instigator of the island's secrets was this week's outside theorist proposition. It may be true, but personally he's the less believable I've heard from. Not so much in his evidence, but in his dramatic deliverance.
The dive at 10X continues with a practise dive before down goes the expert. With only 3 minutes of the show left at this point, it was disheartening to even begin a dive we was not going to see the end of this week.

Always going to be difficult to match the amazing second half of the second season, especially when you're having to set the scene for the new season. Thus, most of this episode is full of dialogue that brings up up to date on what happened once Captain Flint returned back to Nasseu. Seems at least 3-4 months have passed. Looks like Blackbeard is back? Other than that, this episode is light on action, but there is great promise of hell coming the way of the pirates over the course of the season.

Norwegian Prime Minister gets kidnapped. Bodyguard does a lot of running around and looking anxious, lots of authoritative figures debate things, a restaurant isn't dong very good business, a reporter gets a scoop and the Russians start to arrive.
A decent opener, intent on personalising the drama much like The Returned rather than concentrating purely on the action. The use of subtitles, a camera view that pans widescreen a lot and lead permanently anxious bodyguard, helps tremendously to inject fear and concern into almost every situation. There use of showing on-screen what characters see on their mobile devices is interesting but unnecessary and slightly childish.

Ignoring UFOs, Maggie & Chris go through the most likely explanations of what the star could have been, whilst the man who keeps turning up on BBC programmes, Dallas, does the historical work to come up with some real proof of an astrological event at that point in history. For me, he does the more interesting pieces, as Maggie & Chris whittle the suspects down to a comet, the one option that most people think was likely anyway. Nevertheless, an intriguing and hour long look at the star.

There's as ever, nothing tangible found, but there's no doubt that the seabed discoveries this week do look more possible to actually tell us something than previous revelations.

Not up to the opener's standard. We get whiffs of the war in bits and bobs. Mostly it's Pierre wondering around his home looking baffled by everything, whilst not seeing his wife's affair, until the last minute, whilst I'm continuously confused between Andrei and Boris. It's not been easy to ascertain an A to Z of everyone thus far.

Fantastic costumes and scenery as one would expect from the BBC. A very intriguing story and instantly likeable characters combine with the visual delight, makes for a story I was hooked into from the off. Only downer is that the Russians are very English in this adaption.

Not the finale I was hoping for. Almost two hours of watching this slagging off match, moody atmosphere, deaths, and mystery, and the ending didn't really deliver. It was unexpected to find out who was behind it all, and that everyone was just as bad as each other, but it didn't really give me any satisfaction for having watched this show.

People die. People accuse each other and we get back-stories to everyone's past. Yet, hardly ever does anyone behave as you'd expect. They should all stay in the one room and stay together, but no, they all repeatedly go off singularly and then cop it! Fancy that!

Christmas Edition and 45 minutes! Nina Conti does the hosting, but largely does the same old trick with the monkey and face masks that really weren't anything more than average (6). Tanyalee Davis likewise did a decent effort (6) but the stand-out entertainers for me were Hal Cruttenden (7) and Josh Widdicombe (7) who had me laughing.

The Finale. Not quite the send-off I was hoping for, because there are numerous unanswered questions, not least where is the real Pope now? The Turk Army was defeated by the super weapon in dramatic style, but it's the way things were dealt with regarding the other main "bad" guys demises, namely the Sultan, that felt a little undercooked. We lost several more central characters along the way, but we did get to see a big battle, and a resolution at least for Da Vinci. A surprising turnaround for Carlo though.

Disappointing again, somewhat. At least Sophia had less to say this week. The big speech to army built things up for a battle which we only saw aftermath off. Vlad easily stealing a tank makes you wonder how he can't just win the war alone. Carlo's trial was anything but one. His visit by cult leader also means we may not yet see his full redemption.

Ridiculously cheese-fest to watch and rather uninteresting. However, a gripping five minutes at the end helped a lot.

As ever, it's hard to work out Simco. Probably he's just nuts but his motives were intriguing. More love story with British guy was charming I guess but filled up a decent wedge of this episode.

She's not too offensive, unlike those from last season, so that's a good start for her. Otherwise, it's just an average episode with little to LOL about, and instead just maybe a little smirk.

Da Vinci's newly discovered sister, Sophia, becomes an adult version of a really excitable child, annoying me whenever she started to act nothing like she had in her previous guise as a rather troubled prisoner. Just too much to believe in one go I'm afraid. Riario's confession to Lorenzo is understandable but only serves to delay progress of the main storyline. Vlad is great entertainment though. Carlo and Da Vinci's battle was good but underwhelming for what should have been a much bigger deal.

Russell Kane (6) does a decent job, although rather too crude on far too many occasions. Roisin Conaty (5) was bearable, with Nick Helm (5) having a mixed performance with opening naff shouting voice gags, followed by a bizarre but amusing singing segment.

Absolutely great plot twists and turns along the way, and another unexpected death of a central character.

It's ridiculous yes and my beloved Jack Dee still seemed out of place in the show, but the way the plot unwinds each week is magical, creative, amusing and sometimes LOL.

Despite Da Vinci spending much of the episode acting even crazier than normal, at least we knew it was likely to head to conclusion. The ending, what with another main character dying, really makes the threat feel great.

Aside from clearing out yet more junk from 10X, the gang headed down country for some historic lesson about a stone with symbols on that one researcher thinks is linked to Oak Island. Curiosity is intact as ever. But little new information this week.

Quite a gruesome episode, as another main character bites the dust in this final season.

It all makes for a rather meaty episode with more passion and emotion evident than for a long time.

They got the diggers in! One spot turned up nothing, but the search at the money pit did at least seem to help them relocate the original pit. Intriguing stuff and excellent back-story segments. Still would be nice to have some actual archaeologists on site though.

This felt like it was just getting in the way, and rushed. Seriously though, a tractor beam can be knocked off? Very flimsy for a powerful weapon. Don't quite get why we went through Ezra's chase for a sad conclusion, but I did feel a little emotional there for a moment. Guess the intention is that this is the end of this part of Ezra's story.

Sadly though, none of any of the above was in any great quantity or quality. Very hard to distinguish this season from any of the previous five.

The supporting characters are pleasant, but they seem to endlessly waffle and produce mild humour that's filler for all the bigger laughs for Josh. That's ok, but it does mean that things can drag a lot at times.

It's entertaining, with some kick-ass action, but adds very little to character background or the season's Darth Vader pursuit. Seems to be here just to make Rex/Kanon kiss and makeup. How old is Rex in this? He can't shot straight or out muscle stormtroopers.
